Merle Haggard (w/Kris Kristofferson)

I don't follow the career of these guys closely, so I'm a bit surprised they are even still alive. Old Merle had something like 40 number one songs, which is another way of saying he is 1 in 50 country musicians who doesn't completely suck. I wonder if Haggard is his real last name, because I'm sensing some irony here, vocabularily speaking.
