Cake At The Doug Fir For Face Value ($40)

Actually, face value is $39.50, but after fees, the ticket was more like $46. Either way, I'm selling it for $40. If you are a giant Cake fan, and want to attend, send me an email. You must convince me you are not a scalper. Cake sold out Edgefield (capacity 5,000) last year, so playing a venue with a capacity under 400 is pretty huge. I'm not risking selling this ticket to someone who will turn around and sell it for a profit. I might even require you to enter the venue with me, just so I know you aren't a scalper. I haven't decided yet. It depends on how comfortable I am with the replies.

And no, "is the ticket still available?" and "I'll take it, woohoo" doesn't convince me you aren't a scalper. Some people are so comically dumb. You don't need to write a book either. It's actually pretty easy to convince me you're legit. Email me at knowidyuh@gmail.com. I'll leave this add up for a couple days before I respond to the winner, just so I can fuck with the scalpers charging a shit ton for these tickets, but also so the real non-scalping Cake fans have an opportunity to reply.

The show is Tuesday, May 28th.

MGMT Ticket(s) For Face Value ($30)

I have at least one extra ticket to MGMT at the Crystal Ballroom Thursday night. I'm selling it for face value, which is $30 (I'll pay the fees). This sold out in a couple minutes, so hopefully everyone reading this knows there are people out there who are not looking to screw you out of a couple bucks. Email me at knowidyuh@gmail.com. I'm not interested in selling this ticket to a scumbag who will turn around sell it for $80, so convince me you are a legit person interested in going to the show, and I'll get back to the person I feel most comfortable selling it to. You have to be willing to pick up the ticket near China Town (Downtown) in the early evening Tuesday, Wednesday, or the night of the show. If the add is still up on Craigslist, it's because I haven't decided who to sell the ticket(s) to. Here's my middle finger scalpers.

Just like many, I enjoy making lists. For the shows I've attended, I'll list the bands I saw. If I don't have an opening band listed, it's because I didn't see them. Do I think you care what shows I'm going to, and what shows I've seen? Not really. This is more for me, bookkeeping if you will.

New Shows: Time To Make Summer Plans

Me, always getting caught up, one of these days I'll stay on top of this, like that one time in 2010.  Maybe I'll even write a review this summer.

Leonard Cohen

Probably the greatest show I've ever seen. Cohen is almost 80 years old, and played for over three hours.  I'm not star struck, but he might be the only person alive I would be speechless to meet (since Frank Zappa is dead). He is the legend of legends.  Set list from his last Rose Garden show here.

Tedeschi Trucks Band

Oh hey, cool, $25 cheap seats.  You don't see that much at the Schnitz.  Then again, you won't be able to see Derek Trucks guitar fingering that far away, so it's not worth it.

fun.

If you missed out on tickets to their sold out Roseland show next week, you get a second chance. I haven't spent a lot of time listening to this band, but I thought they are radio pop for the youngsters? It will be strange seeing the opera house packed with teenagers.

New Shows: New Computer Edition

I occasionally slack at updating this blog (some of you are nodding your head), but there are behind the scenes forces much more powerful than slacking which keeping me from writing. My (old) computer has increasingly rebelled against me for over a year now, and recently said, "nope, we're done." It was hard, I've spent over four years with her, but computers are like girlfriends. The first year is fantastic, all about exploration and learning what it can do, the second year is about complacency, then it slowly disintegrates leading to day dreams about a less bulky computer with more memory, a sleeker design, a prettier monitor, and maybe better driving skills. Is that a bad analogy? Okay, a computer is like a puppy dog, super cute the first year, becomes your best friend for the next ten years, then becomes a financial liability until they pass (while defecating everywhere). Maybe that analogy doesn't work either. Regardless, I've got a new computer, I've been telling my friends how this is the one, and it hasn't soiled my carpet yet. Let's see what shows we've missed since I've been away:

John Fogerty

CCR lead singer, but you already knew that.

Edgefield, Troutdale (OR)
Sunday, June 17th, 2012
$47-$79

========================================================

Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band

Catch a member of the Beatles before they die. Sunday nights shows suck for those of us who get wasted on weekends and have to recover by Monday morning. Sunday night shows are great for retired people for the opposite reason.

Edgefield, Troutdale, (OR)
Sunday, July 15th, 2012
$53-$93

========================================================

Kaskade

Someone is finally wising up to the instant sell out EDM shows. Look at that ticket price!

Roseland, Portland
Thursday, August 9th, 2012
$40

========================================================

Chickenfoot

Seeing Joe Satriani shred at the Schnitz is worth the price.

Arlene Schnitzer, Portland
Sunday, June 3rd, 2012
$35/$45

========================================================

Esperanza Spalding

Didn't she beat Justin Beiber for best new artist once?

Crystal Ballroom, Portland

$35

========================================================

Lindsey Buckingham

Fleetwood Mac guitarist.

Aladdin, Portland
Friday, May 18th, 2012
$50

========================================================

Emmylou Harris (w/Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers)

I don't think there are enough old people in Portland to sell this show out on a work night.

Edgefield, Troutdale (OR)
Thursday, July 26th, 2012
$47-$89

========================================================

Amon Tobin

Screw the music, this is one of the greatest visual displays you will ever see.

Roseland, Portland
Sunday, September 2nd, 2012
$30

========================================================

Hot Chip

They seem to have a hater following among the EDM snobs, but I dig them a lot.

Crystal Ballroom, Portland
Thursday, September 13th, 2012
$35

========================================================

Warped Tour

Now this is interesting. It appears the event will take place across the street from the Memorial Coliseum. That area used to be basically nothing, but now serves as a parking lot for Rose Quarter events. I've been to Warped once before (shut up, I was partying with Bad Religion), so I'm wondering if that area is big enough to hold every high school kid in the Portland metro? It's a great idea travel wise though, since every max-line in Portland goes through that area.

Rose Quarter Riverfront, Portland
Sunday, August 5th, 2012
$31.50

========================================================

The Tubes

Aladdin, Portland
Saturday, May 12th, 2012

========================================================

Collective Soul (An Evening With)

What is better than one Collective Soul set? Two of course. Even though now one cares, they're still touring "10 Years Later."

$28/$40

========================================================

Jonathan Coulton

Famous for being an internet nerd. Someday I'll reach famous internet nerd status.

Aladdin, Portland
Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Amazingly talented comedian/beat boxer. If you've never heard of this guy, and your night is free, you won't be disappointed.

He wants pussy, he just wants pussy. He told me at Coachella last year.

Wonder Ballroom, Portland
Saturday, April 28th, 2012
$20

========================================================

Destroyer

One of the worst shows I saw last year, and I've always been a huge fan. He no longer plays guitar, he's a lounge singer surrounded by below average musicians. If he ever decides to shut up and play his guitar, I'll pay to see him again.

Aladdin, Portland
Monday, June 4th, 2012
$18

========================================================

New Shows: Lupe Fiasco, Florence + The Machine/The Walkmen, Mark Lanegan Band, X, Thrice, Suckers, Stone In Love

Lupe Fiasco

Ego check for one of the largest egos in the game. Dude was Lupe enough to think he could fill the Memorial Coliseum (9,000+ capacity), and ended up cancelling due to low ticket sales. Now he's playing the Schnitz (2.800 capacity), and those who purchased tickets to the cancelled event get their own private presale. This means less than 2,800 people purchased tickets to his arena show, and the tickets to the new show are much cheaper. What a Fiasco.

Arlene Schnitzer, Portland
